We deeply care about nature. So, for a real change, Mito Digital's high-flying aviation team has shifted their focus from the skies to the earth and, as a voluntary project, redesigned the Kerekerdő Foundation's website to be modern, informative, and easy to use and maintain.

The story

As their strategic delivery partner for over a decade, we at Mito Digital have been working with Wizz Air alongside a dedicated team of UX/UI designers, developers, and project managers. And while we love flying this route, we were itching for a fun, creative project that would allow us to flex our skills in an entirely new way.

Our mission was also to give back, so we set our radar on nonprofit organizations that share our values and needed a major website overhaul. We found the Kerekerdő Foundation, an organization dedicated to protecting nature and promoting environmental education, and we were excited to lend a digital hand.

The Kerekerdő Foundation

offers forest schools, creative camps, training programs, as well as environmental and nature conservation advice, all aimed at preserving biodiversity and promoting sustainable resource management.

Our challenge

As a reliable source of environmental education, the Kerekerdő website offers a wealth of content, including professional articles, statements, and details of their camps and other programs. From a design perspective, the challenge was to create an easy-to-navigate, modern site structure that could handle this large amount of content. We needed to understand the website's goals to effectively prioritize key aspects. From a developer's perspective, the challenge was to build a site that non-experts could easily edit, including text, design elements, and layouts.

The approach

Addressing these issues, our dedicated team:

• Rethought the information architecture, making the content more structured and user-friendly with an integrated search function and added filtering within articles. • Migrated the content to WordPress, allowing easy editing without needing HTML knowledge, ensuring it could be kept up to date with minimal effort. • Introduced new tools, such as highlighting and contact forms, to better engage audiences and make the site more dynamic. We also streamlined key functionalities essential for a nonprofit organization, focusing on enhancing engagement, including: • Newsletter subscription option promoted • Petition section featured • Gallery renewed (keeping users on the site) • Camp registration simplified (with direct application and clear info on cards) • Support page highlighted (with easy bank account number copying)

In general, we designed a modern, attractive look featuring a refreshed logo that incorporates elements of the original.

The result

As we do with every project, whether voluntary or for our major clients, we went above and beyond mere delivery.

We held two comprehensive demos to showcase the redesigned website. We also provided detailed documentation focused on the specific Kerekerdő components, ensuring our client had everything needed to manage the site efficiently. Plus, we're here to offer extra support whenever needed, ensuring a smooth transition to the new platform.
